1ST GRADE::HM STEM
WELCOME! THIS SITE IS TO INFORM YOU ABOUT EVERYTHING FIRST GRADE AT HERBERT MILLS STEM ELEMENTARY. YOU WILL FIND A LOT OF RESOURCES AND INFORMATION TO HELP YOU HAVE AN AWESOME YEAR IN FIRST GRADE!
Dear Herbert Mills STEM Families, Over the next two weeks we will be holding a food drive for Reynoldsburg's Helping Hands Food Pantry. We will not have any type of competition, we just invite interested families to donate to this vital organization that helps families right here in Reynoldsburg. There is a box in the school entryway for donations. We will be delivering the items to Helping Hands on Wednesday, December 20 (the last day of school before winter break). Please see the attached flyer for more infomation about what types of items the food pantry most needs. Thank you and have a great weekend! Sincerely, Mrs. Maryellen Weeks, Principal Mr. Chris Cracraft, Student Support Specialist

Dear Herbert Mills STEM Families,
Please join us next Wednesday, December 20 (the last day of school before winter break), from 4–8 p.m. at Five Guys Burgers & Fries on Rte. 256 in Reynoldsburg. (This is not the same Five Guys location we were at last year!) Our PTO is having a restaurant night fundraiser – celebrate winter break by taking a break from cooking and let Five Guys take care of dinner for you! Any time from 4–8 p.m., mention Herbert Mills when ordering and Five Guys will donate 20% of the proceeds back to our PTO. Please see attached flyer for more information (you do not need to bring the flyer with you to Five Guys; just let them know you are with Herbert Mills). This is good for all orders – eat in or carry out! Pass the word to family and friends! We hope to see you at Five Guys next week! Sincerely, Miss Allison McMannis PTO Vice-President (614) 367-2160 Dear Herbert Mills STEM Families,
After a relatively mild fall, it looks like cold weather is finally here! Please remember that we have outdoor recess if the temperature/wind chill factor is 20 degrees or higher. Please be sure to send your student to school with a warm winter coat, hat, scarf, and gloves so they do not have to sit in the office while their classmates are playing outside. Please keep in mind that the school doors do not open until 7:55 a.m. If you drop your student off before that time in cold weather, remember that they will need to wait outside the building until 7:55. If your children are missing any winter weather gear, please ask them to check our Lost & Found – it is full! Sincerely, Mrs. Mary Ellen Weeks, Principal (614) 367-2160 No spelling 11/6/17 -11/13/17
Make sure your student is working on the Farm Reflection Questions. This is due Monday the 13th.

Dear Herbert Mills Families,
As the school year goes on, we are seeing more traffic violations at arrival and dismissal in the parking lot here at Herbert Mills. Even if you are running late or in a hurry, please be mindful of pedestrian and vehicle safety. Please be sure to enter and exit the parking lot by making right turns only. No left turns are allowed from the parking lot or from Retton Road. If you are traveling east on Retton (toward Huber Park), you must go around the block and approach the parking lot from the west so that you make a right turn. When you leave the parking lot, you must turn right to go west on Retton Road. Traffic signs are posted and police officers will ticket and fine drivers who make left turns. Please be mindful of our posted school speed limit (20 mph) on Retton Road. If you are dropping your student off from a car, please do not stop your car in the crosswalk. When this happens, walking students are unsure whether they should use the crosswalk and accidents are more prone to happen. Thank you for your help in making sure all our students are safe! Mrs. Mary Ellen Weeks (614) 367-2160 Dear Herbert Mills Families,
Due to testing this week, we have had to move our October Tiger Town meeting from tomorrow morning to this Thursday, October 26 at 1:50 p.m. We hope you can join us to celebrate students who have shown exceptional Respect at Herbert Mills this month! Sincerely, Mrs. Mary Ellen Weeks, Principal (614) 367-2160 [email protected] Please remember to check the purple folders, each night. It is important to take out all of the "mail" too. Graded papers and office mail come home throughout the week and some folders are getting too packed. Also, please take the time to go over any incorrect work in the folder! This will help your child so much! If they didn't get anything wrong, ask them to explain the work to show off how awesome they are! :)
Dear Herbert Mills Families,
Please remember that our October PTO meeting is this evening (Tuesday) at 6:30 p.m. in the ICE Lab. All parents, guardians, and grandparents are welcome to attend. Mrs. Weeks will be presenting Title I information. We will also be discussing our PTO Scholastic Book Fair and our carnival coming up on Thursday evening. We look forward to seeing you tonight! Sincerely, Mrs. Tammy Ludwig, PTO President Miss Allison McMannis, PTO Vice-President |
