This week's homework is a math unit review packet. We finished Unit 2 of iReady math before Thanksgiving break. We will be reviewing in class as well to prepare for the End of Unit test at the end of the week. Please help your child work through this math packet this week as homework. Students should use their CUBES strategies and show their work when completing the packet.
We will have a spelling test on Monday, December 4th. Fluency and spelling again! See below for helpful hints for fluency homework! Don't forget to fill out the chart AND answer the comprehension questions on the back!
The yellow homework resource folder was sent home on Monday, September 11. The folder and the fluency homework need to be returned to school on Monday, September 18.
Please see the post below further explaining the fluency homework. Your child will take a spelling test on Monday, September 18. And new spelling words will be given out along with the new fluency passage. This is an example of what the fluency passage may look like. This student read a total of 34 words in 1 minute, the bracket " ] " shows the last word the student read when the timer went off. However, this student had 4 errors, words that were either skipped or read incorrectly (the words with slashes through them). To find the "total correct words" read, I took 34 and subtracted the number of errors, so 34 - 4=30. This student read 30 words correctly in 1 minute.
Since you will be using the same sheet throughout the week, we suggest using scrap paper to tally the number of errors your child makes. This way, the paper won't have writing all over it as your child is trying to read it fluently. Just be sure to keep track of which word they stop on when 1 minute is up! **Parents will be filling out the bottom chart, not the students.** Don't forget about the comprehension questions on the back! We suggest answering these questions after the 4 timed readings are completed, and then reading the passage all the way through. First graders use technology almost every day in class! It is important that they learn their username and password, and how to type it correctly themselves. We sent home a paper keyboard for students to practice typing their username and password. Please practice this each night this week, and continue to do so throughout September. They really need help finding the 'period' key! *There are NO spaces in their username.* Their password is their student ID number, which is also used to purchase breakfast/lunch if the finger scanner isn't working and/or you opted-out of the finger scanning option. |
Homework FolderThe yellow homework folder will be sent home at the beginning of each school week. Homework will be due the first day of the following week. Typically, the folder is sent home on a Monday and is expected to be turned in the following Monday with all work completed! Archives
