What is IFL?
IFL stands for Innovations for Learning. Students begin IFL in kindergarten and continue it in 1st grade. Students use IFL for their blended learning literacy instruction. Students rotate through different reading stations while teachers’ conference with students individually or in small groups. The software helps teachers manage different aspects of the daily reading block, like forming groups, scheduling conferences, note taking and assessing students reading levels. Teachers can easily instruct and assess students' reading at the same time with this program. During IFL on the computer, students work on differentiate reading instruction in the form of games and guided texts. Students are placed in different reading stages based on their sight word fluency and decoding ability. In first grade we start students at the stage they left off on in kindergarten. Students who move 4 reading stages throughout the school year are considered to have made one year’s growth. There are a total of 9 reading stages. Students are expected to end the year at a stage 9 if they are reading on benchmark.
